Additional Property Info

This 4+ acre tract is just west of Rentiesville off of Gertrude Road. Access is from the east side through the railroad tract easement. The property is wooded with a clearing of about 1.5 acres in the northeast corner.

Rentiesville is one of about 50 “Freedman” communities established in Oklahoma after the Dawes Act land distributions around 1900. Only a handful of them still remain. After the Civil War slaves held by some of the relocated Indian Nations were emancipated. There was discourse over whether these “Freedman” had membership in and rights of the Indian Nations. The U.S. Government considered them tribal members for the Dawes Act and included them in land distributions. Many “Freedmen” chose their parcels in near proximity to each other creating Rentiesville and the other towns.

Rentiesville is home to the annual Blues music festival and Blues Club as well as the Visitors Center for the Honey Springs Civil War Battlefield for the Oklahoma Historical Society.

It may be odd to talk about deer hunting on only 4 acres, but the Seller successfully hunted two seasons there after selling his primary hunting ground north of town.
