The Bagale Estate, Part I – Fine Furnishings & Decorative Arts

This auction begins the offering of the personal estate of the late Dr. E. John Bagale, a respected Pueblo-area physician, historian, scholar, and lifelong collector.

While previous sessions from The Bagale Collection focused primarily on military history and related artifacts, this auction opens the doors to Dr. Bagale’s home and presents a very different side of his collecting life. The sale features an impressive assortment of antique and vintage furniture, European and international decorative arts, fine accessories, artwork, clocks, lighting, porcelain, silverplate, historical reference books, and distinctive objects gathered over many years.

Furniture highlights include an Ottoman Levantine brass sini table dated 1865–1866, a French Empire Revival walnut pedestal table, a custom Neoclassical Empire marble-top bookcase, a Louis XV Revival burl walnut and leather executive desk, a William and Mary-style burl walnut cabinet-on-stand, Victorian onyx and brass parlor furniture, marble-top pedestal cabinets, Syrian mosaic marquetry tables, mahogany consoles, writing tables, seating, bookcases, and other well-appointed furnishings.

The decorative arts selection includes European porcelain and faience, gilt-bronze and brass objects, Chinese and Japanese ceramics, carved stone, silver-plated serving pieces, mantel and wall clocks, lamps, framed artwork, prints, and architectural accessories. Of particular note is a monumental Villeroy & Boch Mettlach wine punch bowl, along with numerous unusual pieces reflecting Dr. Bagale’s interest in European, Middle Eastern, Classical, and Asian history and design.

Also included is a substantial collection of art, architectural, archaeological, and historical reference books, together with early Pueblo, Colorado postcards depicting downtown landmarks, Union Depot, Mineral Palace Park, prominent residences, and other scenes of local interest.

The result is an eclectic and highly personal estate collection filled with quality furniture, scholarly material, historical interest, and decorative objects chosen with an informed and discerning eye.

Online bidding is now open.
